Venezuela Mirages operational in January. The first three of the Mirage-50s donated by Venezuela, which arrived in Ecuador in October, will be operational in January, according to an air force spokesman. The remaining three are expected to arrive in mid-December, after undergoing a comprehensive inspection (the aircraft were built in 1976 and last upgraded in 1955). Four Ecuadorean pilots and 24 technical personnel have been sent to Venezuela for training at the Libertador air force base. The government has set aside U$S10m for support and maintenance of the aircraft. The idea is to have three of the Mirage-50s fully operational at any one time. The six have been assigned to the Ecuadorean air force's Taura combat wing, which currently has only one of its 13 Mirages fully operational. The wing also has 12 Kfirs.
