BRAZIL-ARGENTINA: Far-right rioters flee to Argentina

The federal police (PF) launched the latest phase of Operation ‘Lesa Pátria’ on 6 June, its investigation into the networks of far-right rioters who stormed the seats of government in Brasília on 8 January 2023. The police raids last week resulted in 50 arrests, but 159 suspects targeted in the operation were not apprehended. The PF suspects that some of the fugitives have fled Brazil to neighbouring Argentina, where they believe they can claim refuge, given that the country is governed by the far-right President Javier Milei.
