Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin spoke over the phone on 10 June, during which they discussed, among other topics, Brazil and China’s joint statement released last month which called for peace negotiations to end the war in Ukraine. On 7 June Brazil’s vice president, Geraldo Alckmin, concluded a trip to China, where he held a meeting with China’s President Xi Jinping, although Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine was not the main topic discussed, as Alckmin was leading a delegation of government officials and business representatives whose priority was to deepen economic cooperation.
