BOLIVIA: Protesters block highways over fuel shortages
Truck drivers blocked roads around Bolivia for two days from 3-4 June in protest at shortages of fuel and US dollars. President Luis Arce’s government has argued that the protests, which have now been suspended until 17 June, are only serving to compound the shortages, which it claims have been heavily exaggerated. The goal, government officials have claimed, is to cause more serious disruption to fuel supplies that would damage Arce’s reputation ahead of next year’s election.
