VENEZUELA: Maduro delivers annual address to congress
Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro delivered his annual state-of-the-nation address to the national assembly on 15 January. At five hours in length, the speech covered, among other things, the state of the economy, the thwarting of four conspiracies to assassinate him (he provided no details), foreign affairs, and future plans, while conspicuously failing to reveal a date for this year’s presidential elections.
