BOLIVIA: Morales supporters take to streets as MAS rift deepens

Bolivia’s President Luis Arce still has two years left in his presidential term but is already on a defensive electoral footing. The civil war in the ruling left-wing Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS) continues to intensify between factions loyal to Arce and former president Evo Morales (2006-2019) as Morales seeks the party’s nomination for the 2025 election. The Evista wing of the MAS that backs Morales is now planning demonstrations after Bolivia’s supreme electoral tribunal (TSE) overturned a move by the MAS leadership to expel Arce and declare Morales as the party’s 2025 candidate.
