Paraguay’s new congress was installed on 1 July ahead of Santiago Peña assuming the presidency on 15 August. Unlike President Mario Abdo Benítez, who defended his government’s achievements during a virtual address to congress, Peña will enjoy majorities in both the lower chamber and the senate, assuming that the ruling Asociación Nacional Republicana-Partido Colorado (ANR-PC) remains united.
