BRAZIL-ARGENTINA: Lula and Fernández seek further integration

Since Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva took office, at the start of January, he has met Argentina’s President Alberto Fernández on five occasions, the latest meeting taking place on 26 June in Brasília. Regional integration has been a priority for Lula’s government, after his right-wing predecessor Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2023) had neglected relations with Brazil’s neighbour and largest trade partner in South America.
