MEXICO: Sinaloa DTO gaining ground in CDMX?
In July, two incidents sparked speculation over the extent of presence that the powerful Sinaloa drug trafficking organisation (DTO) exerts in Mexico City (CDMX). Mexico’s capital has typically been less affected by the violence that the country’s largest DTOs – namely Sinaloa DTO and the Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) - provoke in other states and has seen a drop in rates of homicides and other violent crimes in recent years. However, two recent events – a shootout and a historic drug bust – have led to concerns that Sinaloa DTO may be looking to up its operations in the capital.
