Ecuador’s President Guillermo Lasso has been left in limbo by the country’s powerful indigenous organisation, the Confederación de Nacionalidades Indígenas del Ecuador (Conaie). Since staging large anti-government demonstrations from 26-27 October, Conaie has been ambiguous about whether it plans to bring further unrest to the streets. Lasso has invited representatives from Conaie to negotiations on 10 November, but for the time being the indigenous movement appears happy to make Lasso wait while it ponders his offer.
