CHILE: Piñera panders to parties

After coming under fire from prominent members of his Coalición por el Cambio for stacking his cabinet with technocrats, the president-elect, Sebastián Piñera, made a gesture to the two main parties making up the coalition when it came to naming his deputy ministers. The majority of his 31 appointments as deputy ministers, who will assume their positions when Piñera takes office on 11 March, come from the Unión Demócrata Independiente (UDI) and Renovación Nacional (RN).
