NICARAGUA: Ortega tightens grip on power

The ruling Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional (FSLN) swept all before it in municipal elections staged on 4 November. It secured the capital Managua, and all but one of the provincial capitals. President Daniel Ortega, who was re-elected with a thumping congressional majority last November, has now completely eviscerated the opposition at all levels of government.
