BRAZIL: Palocci says interest rates beside the point

The finance minister, Antônio Palocci, said on 23 May that the government does not believe that lowering interest rates would do much to boost growth. Last week the central bank's monetary policy committee annoyed politicians and businesses by holding rates at 16%.
