Brazil's biggest brewer, Ambev, confirmed yesterday that it was in negotiations with the Belgian brewer, Interbrew. The two companies said that the negotiations could lead to a substantial deal. The Brazilian stockmarket took the view that Ambev was a takeover target and marked its shares up 16% yesterday.
