BRAZIL: New accusations and the first public protest

A new revelation in the Diniz affair indicates that another aide of President Lula da Silva's right-hand man, Jose Dirceu, had asked for campaign contributions from an illegal gambling ring. In an article published yesterday (1 March), Marcelo Sereno, who is an adviser of Dirceu, was accused of participating in corruption schemes during the term of Benedita da Silva as governor of Rio de Janeiro under the Worker's Party (PT) banner.
