PERU: Inflation up

In February 2008, consumer price inflation hit its highest monthly rate since President Alan Garcí­a took office in 2006. Prices rose 0.91% on a monthly basis in February, with an annual rate of 4.82%. The rise in inflation is having severe political effects: President Garcí­a's approval rating, which surged after his energetic response to the earthquake in 2007, has now crashed to its lowest level since he took office.
