COSTA RICA: Fiscal deficit returns in January

The government ran a thumping fiscal deficit in January after achieving a surplus for 2007. The deficit came in at C$13.77bn (US$27.5m). This was the first monthly deficit after eight months of surpluses. The fiscal surplus in 2007 was the first for 50 years.
