*Chile’s state copper company Codelco has said that it is investigating new signs that some of its production figures for 2024 and 2025 may have been counted twice, resulting in an
“artificial increase” in output figures at the Ministro Hales mine, in Antofagasta region, and the Salvador mine, in Atacama. Codelco said that
“the inconsistency is the result of the same material being registered in the production figures of more than one division”. It said that it has contracted an external auditing team as well as carrying out internal investigations, and said that the latest findings have been passed on to the attorney general’s office. Codelco’s CEO,
Jorge Gómez, said that the company will
“exhaustively investigate any irregularity, determine responsibilities, apply the appropriate sanctions, and pursue the recovery of any financial damage which may have occurred”. This follows a
previous announcement by Codelco in May this year that it was contracting an external audit to review the calculation of 2024-2025 production figures which it said had been improperly reported.
