PANAMA: New ACP administrator outlines objectives

Ilya Espino de Marotta recently took over from Ricaurte Vásquez Morales as administrator of the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) for the 2026-2033 term. She previously served as deputy administrator from 2020 and as the Canal’s first chief sustainability officer since January 2024. The first woman to take up the post, Espino de Marotta takes over as the Canal is facing key challenges, most notably drought due to the El Niño weather phenomenon [WR-26-34]. Furthermore, concerns have intensified over a new fund for a recently created joint command involving the ACP and security ministry (Minseg), information about which remains confidential.
