BRAZIL: Bolsonaro family infighting comes to the fore
Brazil’s former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro, the wife of former president Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2023), posted a video on 24 June criticising her stepson, Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, who is expected to be the main right-wing contender in the presidential election in October. Despite efforts by the family and their right-wing Partido Liberal (PL) to downplay the feud, Michelle announced on 30 June that she will step down from her role as the leader of the PL’s women’s wing, which has only heightened the media speculation over the rift between Flávio and Michelle.
