ARGENTINA: Adorni quits as cabinet chief

The saga that has dominated Argentine politics for five months came to an abrupt end on 27 June as Manuel Adorni announced his resignation as cabinet chief. President Javier Milei has stood by Adorni throughout the escalating illicit enrichment scandal in which he has been embroiled to send the message that he will always repay personal loyalty. But while Milei let Adorni announce his own departure he was left with little alternative but to cut him loose after developments in congress suggested that the cabinet chief could succumb to an unprecedented defeat in a motion of censure.
