BRAZIL: Ruling party to back centrist figure for Rio governorship
Brazil’s ruling left-wing Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT) has confirmed that it will not field one of its own members to run for the governorship of the third largest state, Rio de Janeiro. Instead, it will back the gubernatorial bid of Eduardo Paes of the centrist Partido Social Democrático (PSD), who served as the mayor of the state capital from 2009-2017 and again from 2021-2026.
