BRAZIL: Lula appeals to allies in Europe

Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva visited Spain, Germany, and Portugal from 17-22 April, shoring up ties with European partners ahead of 1 May, when the trade deal between the European Union (EU) and the Mercosur trade bloc takes effect provisionally. The efforts to deepen relations with EU allies also comes amid a new flare-up in bilateral tensions between Brazil and the US, with both governments revoking the diplomatic credentials of each other’s liaison officials involved in immigration.
