MEXICO | USTR visits ahead of USMCA review. The US Trade Representative (USTR) Jamieson Greer met Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum on 20 April to discuss US-Mexico trade and economic relations ahead of the joint review of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), which is due by 1 July. Greer thanked Sheinbaum for her “strong leadership in expanding US-Mexico bilateral cooperation”, while the Mexican president said that talks had progressed “positively”. Speaking the day after the meeting, Sheinbaum highlighted that she and Greer had “coincided on the importance of keeping the deal in place”. This is significant given US President Donald Trump has repeatedly said he is prepared to walk away from the USMCA.
