Chile’s President-elect José Antonio Kast all but completed his government team this week, naming 39 of the 40 deputy ministers and 16 presidential delegates to the country’s regions after returning from a foreign trip to Europe where he met far-right allies. Political parties allied with Kast had hoped to pick up the majority of these second-string positions after feeling hard done by when Kast packed his ministerial cabinet last month with independents and technocrats.
