URUGUAY: Still the best despite sharpest fall

Uruguay, which for years has prided itself on topping the region in the annual Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) table produced by the Berlin-based NGO Transparency International (TI), suffered the steepest decline of any country in the whole of Latin America and the Caribbean in its score in the 2025 edition. While it still retains the highest score and ranking of any country in the region in the CPI, which was released this week, the result could prompt a bout of introspection.
