ECUADOR: Correísmo hit with campaign finance investigation
The campaign chief of the left-wing opposition Revolución Ciudadana (RC) in 2023 said on 30 January that he had transferred money from Venezuela to fund the presidential campaign of Luisa González at the request of RC’s founder, former president Rafael Correa (2007-2017). Santiago Díaz, also a former RC deputy, is giving testimony in the ‘Caja Chica’ money laundering case being conducted by the attorney general’s office, which is investigating alleged illicit financing of the 2023 presidential campaign.
