CHILE: Kast cabinet both diverse and controversial
Chile’s President-elect José Antonio Kast unveiled his cabinet last week ahead of his investiture on 11 March. Kast’s cabinet is a paradoxical mix. It is the most politically diverse since the return to democracy in 1990, while also including two controversial figures associated with the military dictatorship of General Augusto Pinochet. It also lacks political experience. It is chiefly pragmatic, being overwhelmingly technocratic in composition, while also being ideological, including an arch social conservative.
