MEXICO: Sheinbaum walks tightrope with US

In what is now almost a year since US President Donald Trump took office, Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum has proven adept at placating her US peer while also defending Mexican sovereignty and interests. She has maintained this balancing act while navigating disputes over trade, security, and water sharing, among other issues. However, with the US attack on Venezuela on 3 January and capture of its leader Nicolás Maduro, Sheinbaum is facing her biggest challenge yet.
