GUATEMALA: Increasing concerns over electoral violence

Several organisations have raised concerns over increasing violence related to the upcoming presidential, congressional and mayoral elections which are due to take place on 9 September. Despite a spate of mud-slinging between parties early in July, the phenomenon has been attributed to organised crime rather than competition between the parties themselves.
