Little emerged from the Caribbean Community (Caricom) 28th summit, held in Barbados on 1-4 July. The meeting closed with the issuing of a communiqué which promised to make "functional co-operation" of the 34-year old community a priority but the heads of state present, once again, failed to tackle any of the serious differences between members.
