In brief: Honduran private sector highlights high informality rate

*Honduras’ largest private sector lobby Consejo Hondureño de la Empresa Privada (Cohep) has released a new bulletin highlighting that Honduras has an 82.6% rate of informal employment, below only Guatemala (83.2%) in the sub-region. According to the bulletin, El Salvador has the third highest rate of informal employment (66.5%), followed by Nicaragua (63.0%), Panama (58.7%), the Dominican Republic (54.7%), and Costa Rica (37.4%). The report warns that “informality remains one of the main brakes on productivity in the region”, adding that it “directly affects millions of workers, exposing them to higher levels of vulnerability and precariousness”.
