The aviation sector has emerged as the latest point of tension between Mexico’s government led by President Claudia Sheinbaum and the US administration of President Donald Trump. On 19 July the US Department of Transport (DoT) announced new restrictions on flights from Mexico and threatened to end a longstanding partnership between Mexico’s flag carrier, Aeroméxico, and US airline Delta, due to Mexico’s “blatant disregard” of a bilateral air transport agreement.
