BRAZIL: Lula incurs Trump’s wrath
US President Donald Trump’s US election victory last November sparked concerns among Brazilian media commentators about a deterioration in US-Brazil relations. Brazil had largely appeared to escape Trump’s attention in the initial months of his presidency which began in January. However, that all changed this month, with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s hosting of the leaders’ summit of the Brics group of developing countries, which comprised Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa before accepting new members in recent years.
