BRAZIL: Huge fraud uncovered at health ministry

The Lula administration has cracked down on a ring of officials and businessmen believed to have defrauded the state of about US$658m over the past 12 years by rigging tenders for blood products bought by the health ministry to treat haemophiliacs. Though it had been operating since way before Lula came to office, the top official involved was a longtime friend and associate of the current health minister.
