The Yacyretá binational hydroelectric complex on the Paraná waterway has long been a source of tension between Paraguay and Argentina. On 19 May Argentina’s government led by President Javier Milei and Paraguay’s government led by President Santiago Peña reached an agreement in relation to the complex seeking to ease such tensions. Under the agreement, new conditions for the use and prices of energy generated by the complex will be established.
