Colombia: more than half the country’s companies are investing in AI

In late 2019 Colombia’s National Policy for Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence was launched. In 2020 a task force for “development and implementation of AI” in the country was appointed. Among various initiatives under discussion in Colombia, Bill 059 sets out legal guidelines for AI development and use, incorporating provisions for human rights protection. A National AI commission will assess and authorise operations. There are also plans for a compliance framework with fines and penalties to be charged if it is transgressed.
