In brief: International tourism surges in Brazil

*Brazil’s tourism ministry has released news figures on international tourism, which showed a total of 929,096 foreign tourists visited Brazil in the month of March, up 25.5% year-on-year. The ministry also reported that Brazil received 3.74m foreign visitors in the first quarter of 2025, up 47.8% from the same quarter in 2024. The south-eastern states of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro remained the main entry points for international visitors in March, with the former receiving 277,266 tourists and the latter receiving 241,812 visitors. The main entry point in the country’s southern region was the state of Rio Grande do Sul, receiving 168,507 tourists in March, while Bahia state was the main entry for foreign visitors in the northeast, receiving 17,583 tourists. In a press release, the tourism ministry highlighted a significant rise in visitors from Argentina, with a total of 395,149 Argentine tourists registered in March, up 76.7% from the same month last year.
