BRAZIL: Top court greenlights trial for Bolsonaro
A panel of five justices in Brazil’s supreme court (STF), known as the ‘Primeira Turma’ (first chamber), unanimously voted on 26 March to accept the charges submitted last month [WR-25-07] by the office of the attorney general (PGR), which accused former president Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2023) and some of his allies of plotting a military coup in 2022. Even though a date has not yet been set, the court’s decision means a trial will be held, which many expect could lead to Bolsonaro’s imprisonment.
