Mexico’s national electoral institute (INE) has begun the process of printing over 600m ballot papers for unprecedented judicial elections on 1 June. The electoral process, the fruit of a controversial judicial reform passed in September [WR-24-37], has been plagued by setbacks and challenges, with the latest being errors contained in the list of candidates supplied to the INE. However, the electoral body, under the helm of its president Guadalupe Taddei, who has ties to the ruling left-wing Movimiento Regeneración Nacional (Morena), is ploughing on with the process. More complaints of irregularities are likely to occur in the months running up to the elections, given the extent of the opposition’s objection to the process and the speed with which the mammoth elections are being organised.End of preview - This article contains approximately 628 words.
