BOLIVIA: Morales leans towards forming new party

Bolivia’s former president Evo Morales (2006-2019) has said that he has begun work on forming a new political party, after he lost control of the ruling left-wing Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS) in November [WR-24-46]. Morales, who is facing steep legal barriers in his quest for a presidential comeback in the August 2025 elections, said on 8 December that whilst he has not given up hope of competing under the MAS banner, he is considering names for a new political movement.
