BRAZIL: Tensions rise with French supermarket

In solidarity with farmers in France, who have recently launched a fresh round of protests against the proposed free trade deal between the European Union (EU) and the Southern Common Market (Mercosur), the French supermarket group Carrefour announced its intention to stop importing meat from Mercosur countries. This decision was met with fierce criticism by both Brazil’s government and agribusiness companies, which even threatened to stop supplying meat to Carrefour’s supermarkets in Brazil.
