Argentina’s former president Cristina Fernández (2007-2015) announced her return to the electoral fray on 19 October. After weeks of speculation, Fernández confirmed that she would make a bid for the presidency of the opposition Partido Justicialista (PJ, Peronist) in internal elections on 17 November. Fernández, the figurehead of the left-wing Kirchnerista faction of the PJ, will stand against Ricardo Quintela, the governor of the north-western province of La Rioja and a representative of the more conservative wing of the party. The outcome could have a big influence on the future of the far-right government of President Javier Milei and the mid-term legislative elections this time next year.End of preview - This article contains approximately 670 words.
