BRAZIL: Spat between X and supreme court escalates
The tech giant X (formerly Twitter) has announced that it will cease operations in Brazil amid ongoing tensions with Brazil’s supreme court (STF) over content moderation. The STF has been investigating online disinformation and has issued fines against the company and ordered the platform to block the accounts of some far-right users, but the company has not complied with these orders and could face further legal action. Although Brazilians can still use the service, the absence of a local branch may complicate the judicial investigations against X.
