BRAZIL: New programme to revitalise industry
Before taking office in January last year, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva promised on the campaign trail to support Brazil’s declining industrial sector. Seeking to deliver on this pledge, Lula unveiled a huge funding plan for the sector on 22 January, although the programme was not widely welcomed by economists and the markets.
