In brief: Venezuela eyes oil cooperation with Mexico

*Venezuela’s oil minister, Pedro Tellechea, who is also the president of state oil company Petróleos de Venezuela (Pdvsa), has met with the director of Mexico’s state-owned oil company Pemex to discuss possibilities for cooperation. According to a Pdvsa statement, Tellechea met in Caracas with Pemex director Octavio Romero Oropeza, as well as other officials including Mexico’s ambassador to Venezuela, Leopoldo de Gyves, and Venezuela’s ambassador to Mexico, Francisco Arias Cárdenas. According to Pdvsa, they discussed “investment opportunities in oil and gas between both nations, as well as the route to establishing projects, infrastructure, and exploratory opportunities”. The statement said that Mexican officials expressed interest in exchanging technical knowledge and best practices regarding the exploration, production, refining, and trading of oil.
