In brief: Brazil’s unemployment rate drops

*Brazil’s national statistics (Ibge) has released its latest unemployment figures, showing an unemployment rate of 7.5% for the rolling quarter of September-November. This marks a decrease from the 7.8% unemployment registered for the June-August rolling quarter and a yearly drop from the 8.1% rate registered for September-November 2022. As of November, Brazil’s unemployed population stood at 8.2m people, while the formally employed population stood at a record 100.5m people, which is up 0.9% from the previous rolling quarter and marks the highest figure since records began in 2012. The quarterly rise in the number of employed people was mainly driven by jobs in general industry (+2.9%) and construction (+2.8%).
