* Brazil’s federal electricity regulator (Aneel) has awarded R$37.9bn (US$7.67bn) of contracts to build transmission lines and electricity substations in the states of Goiás, Minas Gerais, Maranhão, São Paulo, and Tocantins. Aneel’s director, Sandoval Feitosa, said that the contracts awarded at this auction, as well as a previous auction in June this year and another scheduled to take place in March 2024, will result in 17,000km of new transmission lines in Brazil, which he said would expand the size of the grid by 10%. Chinese firm State Grid Corporation of China won the largest batch of contracts in the auction, investing R$18.13bn, followed by Brazil’s Consórcio Olympus and Spain’s Celeo Redes.
