Gustavo Petro has said that it is
“very probable” that the state oil companies of Colombia and Venezuela, Ecopetrol and Petróleos de Venezuela (Pdvsa),
“will become partners in the exploitation of gas and oilfields in Venezuela”. Petro said that this could be part of an arrangement in which Colombia supplies Venezuela with electricity generated from renewable power sources, while Venezuela supplies Colombia with fossil fuels. Petro was speaking alongside Venezuela’s President
Nicolás Maduro following a meeting between the two leaders in Caracas – his fourth official visit to Venezuela since taking office in August 2022.
