* Mexico’s national social security institute (IMSS) has released a new report showing it had registered 22.3m jobs as of 31 October 2023 - the highest number of jobs since records began. According to the IMSS, 86.1% of these jobs were permanent while 13.9% were temporary. In October, 173,257 jobs were created, an increase of 0.8% on the previous month. This brings the total number of jobs created this year to 929,794, with 73.8% of these being permanent roles. IMSS states this is 208,532 more than the average increase in the last ten years for the same period. The economic sectors with the highest annual job growth percentages are construction (9.0%), transportation & communications (5.5%), and commerce (3.9%). Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador celebrated job creation in a press conference on 3 November, stating it was an indication of Mexico’s “exceptional economic qualities” such as foreign investment and the strength of the peso.
